Process

Franzen-Sheehan employs silkscreen printing into paintings, mixed media works on paper, sewn fabric pieces, and sculptures. Her source materials come from old engravings found in antique books, maps, periodicals, and art works. Franzen-Sheehan scans these sources and digitally manipulates the images, enlarging and abstracting small portions which then are transferred onto screens. The screens are printed onto paper, fabric, and canvas in large quantities and variation. From this inventory Franzen-Sheehan assembles works.

The large scale paintings take a few months from start to finish between model sessions and screen printing layers. I work with many talented printmakers at Artist Image Resource on these bigger projects and am ever dependent on my models - beautiful humans who are willing to spend stretches of stillness with me.
